We are a youth development organization that believes in FUN, INCLUSIVITY, EQUITY, RESPECT, and COMMUNITY. Our program is a great way for students to build skills, character, and friendships. There are many ways to get involved, including team practices and rides, GRiT pre-rides and activities, Teen Trail Corps, and races. Our group has developed an amazing team culture where everyone is supporting and cheering on their teammates.
Our coaches are volunteers that want to make mountain biking a rewarding experience for the entire team. They attend annual training and ensure all of the NICA rules are being upheld. We maintain a strong ratio of coaches to student athletes and are always looking for more positive role models that are interested in helping to coach our team. Please let us know if you are interested!
Watching your child participate in a mountain bike program can be extremely rewarding. Do you love riding? Consider being a coach! If not, we can still use your support. Parents help organize team events and dinners, donate food items for race weekends (our team loves to eat!), and volunteer at race weekends. Parents are some of the best cheerleaders, as you will often find us at the starting shoot, in the woods, and at the finish line at all of the races.
The North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League (NCICL) is a non-profit organization that is governed by the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). NCICL's mission is to enable student athletes to develop a strong mind, strong body and strong character through lifelong participation in cycling. We:
Fill a niche for students whose needs may not met by traditional interscholastic sports
Get kids outside
Welcome and support diversity in ability, ethnicity, gender, orientation, and skill level
Promote trail-building efforts and environmental awareness
Improve focus and academic performance in our student-athletes
Promote health & fitness in teens & their families
Riding the trails is fun, but we realize that work must be done to maintain good riding conditions. All student athletes and coaches have an opportunity to give back and volunteer their time for trail maintenance. NCICL even honors those who put in hours on local trails and at the event venues by earning rewards and a spot on the podium. Giving back is part of what makes our league great!
In 2024, TTC totaled 61,476 hours nationally
In 2024, the North Carolina NICA league totaled 4,000 hours. This was a great feat since many areas had access restrictions following Hurricane Helene
TTC Student Ambassador program has 12 student leader positions across the state
Our Cabarrus youth have a history of standing on the podium in recognition for their efforts on the trails!
Girls currently make up about 24% of all student athletes in the national NICA program. The GRiT, or Girls Riding Together, program was established to recruit and retain more girls and female coaches. Participating in GRiT is a wonderful way to get to know other female athletes across the state. All girls have the opportunity to participate in the following:
Preseason GRiT event on October 25 at Sherman Branch Nature Preserve in Charlotte
Early access to race courses and programming at the beginning of all race weekends
Mentor program
GRiT tent and activities throughout race weekends
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is a character building organization focused on: Inclusiveness, Equality, Strong Body, Strong Mind, and Strong Character.
NICA has been around since 2009, when it was originally established in northern California. NICA’s sole purpose is to develop mountain biking as an interscholastic club sport for high school and middle school students in every state. As of this year, there are 32 active leagues across the country, with more than 25,000 student-athletes and 15,000 volunteer coaches.
